Environmental problems are the major global concerns while the world is facing crisis from natural resource destruction and loss due to the behavior of people nowadays.
What will happen if natural resources are destroyed or depleted?
In response to such major concern, the United Nations adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a global agenda, comprising the total of 17 goals, ranging from social, economic, as well as environmental development.
What is SCP? How does it relate to SDGs? Let’s see!
SCP is abbreviated from Sustainable Consumption and Production, which is one of the 17 goals in SDGs, or SDG12: "Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns", focusing on efficient management and utilization of natural resources, as well as reduction of environmental impact and encouraging environmental-friendly production and consumption behaviors. Examples include:
Reduction of food waste;
Reduction of waste in production process;
Chemical and waste management through environmental-friendly methods;
Reduction of waste emission to nature and atmosphere.
Besides, people are encouraged to have better knowledge and understanding on waste management based on the principles of 3Rs, Zero Waste.
Attempts have also been made to create people’s awareness on the importance of sustainable developments in terms of science, technology and innovation, which will lead to more sustainable and efficient production and consumption patterns.
‘G-Green’ the project to promote environmental-friendly production, service and consumption. It will encourage Thai society to enter green consumption society by creating knowledge and understanding, as well as developing measures and mechanism to promote sustainable consumption.
